Interesting Facts about us

So here are a few bits of information about us that you may find interesting:

​

  • The college is 64 years old- established in 1956.

  • The district of Moneague is the home to one of the most beautiful lakes in the country.

  • Moneague College is a Multi-Disciplinary institution with a Teachers’ College and a Community College Division.

  • Every year a theme is chosen to guide our operations this year the theme is, “ Moneague College, Embracing Safety and Health Imperatives, Building a Sustainable Future.”

  • The college colours are blue and yellow

  • The college was closed in 1985 as part of the restructuring in education by the government of Jamaica.

  •  The motto of the college is “ Soaring to heights of Excellence” but we commonly use the mantra “ your opportunity for success.”

  • The Phoenix rising from the ash is the symbol of the college

  • The founding Principal is Dr. Aubrey Phillips Father of the Leader of the Opposition Dr. Peter Phillips.

  • The college grew from one of the first three hotels to be established in Jamaica.

  • As a student you will be placed into one of four halls- Robbie Morris (green), Henry Blake (yellow) Edith James (Red) Claude McKay (blue).

  • We were the first place winner of the CCCJ Software Competition among Community Colleges in 2014,  we came 2nd in 2015 and 3rd in 2017.

  • In 2016 academic year, we were the Junior  Intercollegiate champions of Netball, and winner of Division 2 Basketball.

  • The college has a vibrant choir and band that participates in several functions locally. The college also does extremely well in the local JCDC festivals in song, poetry and drama.

  • In 2017, the college was placed second in Intermediate B Intercollegiate Netball, and in 2018, 3rd in Intermediate A Intercollegiate Netball.

  • 2016, the college was second in Division 2 Cricket. In the same year the Female Athletes came first and the team overall, 3rd in the CCCJ Athletic Meet.

  • The college has had the distinction of producing excellence with our students topping the GPA awards in their respective programmes at the UWI, most recently Lissan Gordon Rainford in 2018. The college has the distinction of copping the distinguished DRB Trophy for early Childhood Education 6 out of the ten times it was given. The college has also done very well in the JPSco Science Awards over the years.

  • The Governor General and his wife are proud alumni of the institution

  • Moneague College is the only institution in Jamaica that has a  chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honour  Society.
