AWARD OF DEGREE

Associate of Science Degree:

1.         Programme Breakdown

            Associate of Science Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management with major in:

  • Accommodation

  • Tourism

  • Food and Beverage

2.         Requirements for completion programme-

  • First Aid training will be arranged at a suitable date and time. students will be required to participate based on the time table posted.

 

  • Community Service

 

Completed thirty (30) hours of Community Service & meet all other requirements as outlined by individual colleges and the Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica

 

  • Work Experience:

Students pursuing an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science programme are required to complete 240 hours of Work Experience/Internship/Practicum. Exemptions may be granted at the discretion of the CCCJ.

Students Requirements

General Guidelines 

Students are required to:

1. Attend classes at the prescribed dates and times

2. Exercise intellectual honesty

3. Acquire the prescribed text book(s)/resource materials

4. Participate in class activities

5. Undertake work in his/her assigned group

6. Successfully undertake and submit all assignments and examinations on time

7. Keep a log of all assignments submitted

Promotion

Promotion to the subsequent year of a programme is based on the number of credits attained and successful completion of required courses. Students with more than nine (9) credits outstanding will NOT be promoted to the second year of an Associate degree programme

Students who are asked to repeat the academic year of a programme may be allowed to do a maximum of fifteen (15) credits in each semester, provided that there are no timetable clashes. (No special arrangement will be made to accommodate these students for classes or examinations)

BACHELORS DEGREE

Matriculation Requirements for year 3/4

Standard forms of matriculation Applicant must possess an Associate degree issued by the CCCJ. It should be noted that the qualifying degree must be in an area relevant to the intended programme of study. Applicants who fail to meet this criterion will be required to complete the necessary bridging courses at the Associate degree level prior to being afforded acceptance.

Alternate forms of articulation

A current student who has ended the final semester of a CCCJ Associate degree programme and trailing no more than six (6) credits. The following conditions shall apply.

  1. The qualifying degree must be in an area relevant to the intended programme of study.

  2. The outstanding credits cannot be from a first-year course.

  3. The outstanding credits cannot be from a course leading to a specialization/major. b. Equivalent qualification(s) as determined by the CCCJ c. Mature Status as determined by the CCCJ

 

The CCCJ offers programmes at the Associate and Bachelor’s levels using a 2 + 2 concept. Under this 2 + 2 concept, the first two years of the programme are at the Associate level and the final two years are at the Bachelor’s level.

The programmes are structured to provide a mixture of:

1. general education courses

2. support courses

3. specialized courses

4. one free elective

5. work experience

6. community service

AWARD OF DEGREE

​

Bachelors of Science Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management with major in:

  • Hospitality and Tourism

For the Bachelor of Science to be awarded student must have:

1. Complete 2 years Associate Degree programme

2.  Completed all credits as specified by the programme

3.. Completed all courses as specified by the programme

4. Completed two hundred and forty (240) hours of Work Experience

5. Completed thirty (30) hours of Community Service

6. Met all other requirements as outlined by individual colleges and the Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica

 

Electives

​

An elective (referred to as a free elective) is a course which may be selected by the student. For a course to be considered a free elective all of the following conditions must be met.

The course must:

have been approved by the CCCJ 2. be offered at the same degree level as the programme being pursued 3. not form part of the specialization of the programme being pursue
